The Sky House
A Group Home for Young Adults with Disabilities
The First Campaign
The Sky House is The Sky Is My Limit’s inaugural campaign. Planning and fundraising efforts began in 2012 with the goal of developing land and constructing a facility to support young adults with mental and physical disabilities in Ghana. Serving as a group home with a purpose, The Sky House officially opened on January 25th, 2018, becoming the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan West Africa.
The land and building of The Sky House serve as the foundation for our vision and mission in Ghana. The building offers living and working spaces for our residents, while the land enables them to farm their own food. Together, these resources create an environment where young adults with disabilities can grow and thrive as individuals.
Home Sweet Home
By establishing a respectful residence in collaboration with local chiefs, schools, opinion leaders, and our own directors, we achieved the success we had been striving for in 2018. After opening The Sky House early that year, our resident numbers quickly grew from 4 to 8 and then to 11. The impact we have had on both the residents of The Sky House and the surrounding community has been substantial.
A Model for Sustainability
The Sky Is My Limit is dedicated to making The Sky House entirely self-sustainable. The sale of residents’ Kente products and the vegetables they grow on the land are significant steps towards achieving this goal. Additionally, expanding the project’s scope and reach is crucial: the more residents we can support, the stronger The Sky House will become as a self-sufficient operation.
Sponsor The Sky House
It was only with the help of donors that we were able to create such an incredible place for young adults to live and learn. This is a place that affirms the productivity and dignity of people with cognitive and/or physical challenges, helping them to grow. The Sky House is itself growing, and with our donors’ continued support, it will continue to expand, empowering young Ghanaians living with mental and/or physical disabilities.
